Dynamic Monitoring of Debris-Covered Glacier Surface Velocity and Ice Thickness of Mt.Tomur, Tian Shan, China

چکیده
The Mt.Tomur glaciers, in the Tian Shan mountains of Western China, are usually debris-covered, and due to climate change, glacial hazards becoming more frequent this region. However, no changes long-time series glacier surface velocities have been observed Conducting field measurements high-altitude is relatively difficult, consequently, dynamics driving factors less studied. Here, image-correlation offset tracking using Landsat images was exploited estimate velocity glaciers region from 2000 2020 assess ice thickness. results show that showed a significant slowdown during 2000–2020, 6.71 ± 0.66 m a?1 3.95 a?1, an overall decrease 41.13%. maximum thickness estimated based on flow principle being 171.27 17.10 m, average 50.00 5.0 m. Glacier at first increases with increasing altitude, showing than 100 10 between 3400 4300 then decreases further altitude. reliability obtained remote sensing proved measured Qingbingtan No. 72 stall (the correlation coefficient R2 > 0.85). debris cover has mitigating effect ablation movement rate 72; however, it accelerating 74.

Shallow seismic surveys and ice thickness estimates of the Mullins Valley debris-covered glacier, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica
Several debris-covered glaciers occupy tributaries of upper Beacon Valley, Antarctica. Understanding their flow dynamics and ice thickness is important for palaeoclimate studies and for understanding the origins of ancient ice elsewhere in the McMurdo Dry Valleys region. We present the results of several shallow seismic surveys in Mullins Valley, where the largest of these debris-covered glacie...
متن کاملThe Mesozoic palaeorelief of the northern Tian Shan (China)
The Tian Shan range offers a natural laboratory to study orogenic processes. Most of the previous studies focused on either the Paleozoic evolution of the range or its Cenozoic intracontinental evolution linked with the India-Asia collision. In this study, detailed field investigations on the relationship between sedimentary cover and basement constrain the Mesozoic evolution of the northern Ti...
متن کاملQuantifying ice cliff evolution with multi-temporal point clouds on the debris-covered Khumbu Glacier, Nepal
Measurements of glacier ice cliff evolution are sparse, but where they do exist, they indicate that such areas of exposed ice contribute a disproportionate amount of melt to the glacier ablation budget. We used Structure from Motion photogrammetry with Multi-View Stereo to derive 3-D point clouds for nine ice cliffs on Khumbu Glacier, Nepal (in November 2015, May 2016 and October 2016). By diff...
متن کاملDistribution and origin of patterned ground on Mullins Valley debris-covered glacier, Antarctica: the roles of ice flow and sublimation
We map polygonally patterned ground formed in sublimation tills that overlie debris-covered glaciers in Mullins Valley and central Beacon Valley, in southern Victoria Land, Antarctica, and distinguish five morphological zones. Where the Mullins Valley debris-covered glacier debouches into Beacon Valley, polygonal patterning transitions from radial (orthogonal) intersections to non-oriented (hex...
متن کاملMonitoring tropical debris-covered glacier dynamics from high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry, Cordillera Blanca, Peru
The glaciers of the Cordillera Blanca, Peru, are rapidly retreating and thinning as a result of climate change, altering the timing, quantity and quality of water available to downstream users. Furthermore, increases in the number and size of proglacial lakes associated with these melting glaciers is increasing potential exposure to glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs). Understanding how these ...
